Talk Story #45 – Exciting New Retail Growth Revealed For Ala Moana Shopping Center

Recently, General Growth Properties Inc. announced the many modifications planned for Hawaii’s largest shopping mall. Located in between the city of Honolulu, the growing high rise residential community within Kaka’ako and all of the Waikiki tourism, Ala Moana is one of the highest grossing malls in the Nation.

Progress beckons and the desire to utilize a large portion of parking space, mostly unused during the majority of the year, became possible to redevelop when Sears, on its 340,000 sq. ft. site, declared they would be vacating around 2014. A stalwart anchor since the Mall opened in 1959, it will be missed, but when one door closes, another opens and this is exciting news! 

The Piikoi Street side of the Mall, with its prime real estate value, can now be unlocked with proposed plans of new additional tiered levels which will open to more dynamite shops and restaurants, eventually totaling nearly 700,000 SF and substantially increasing revenue for this exciting world class center.
